Robert Beaumont as our new External Communications Director

Pegasus World is delighted to announce the appointment of Robert Beaumont as our new External Communications Director.

Robert, who is based at Boroughbridge, near York, is an award-winning journalist and PR consultant, as well as an accomplished author.

Robert comes from a legal family. His father was a Crown Court Judge and his brother-in-law was a Court of Appeal Judge. After studying history at Oxford University, Robert won a Duke of Edinburgh scholarship to study law at the Inner Temple, but decided to follow a career in journalism instead.

Ivan Zhou, CEO of Pegasus World, commented: “This is a significant appointment for us, as the company goes from strength to strength. I have worked with Robert, on and off, for the past five years and his help and advice have proved invaluable. He has an enviable network of contacts in the Yorkshire media and business world and beyond; he works swifty and effectively; and he has our best interests at heart and will always fight our corner.”

Robert Beaumont added: “It is a great honour to work for a company as forward-thinking and successful as Pegasus World. Ivan Zhou is one of Yorkshire’s great entrepreneurs and it will be a pleasure to work along side him to ensure that Pegasus’s magnificent story is told truthfully and effectively.”

During his career at the Yorkshire Evening Press (now the York Press), Robert was named the Yorkshire Feature Writer of the Year for a record four years in succession in the Yorkshire Newspaper Society awards and was honoured in a number of national journalism awards, including campaigning journalist of the year in 1992. He was also the paper’s restaurant critic, film critic, theatre critic, leader writer and assistant editor.

He subsequently carved out a successful career in public relations, with clients including lawyers, accountants, property developers, property agents and manufacturers across the north of England.

His two published books are Grandma, a portrait of the infamous heroine of Giles’s cartoons, and The Railway King, a biography of George Hudson, the founder of the modern UK railway network.

We were delighted to welcome a team from the Johnson Service Group to Curo House earlier this month (May). The Group which supplies our textiles to hotels and restaurants across the UK, is one of our most valued and trusted partners.

We were very proud to show them around our Leeds base and to talk them through how our smooth operation works, from the moment their order is received until it is dispatched.

We discussed potential new business and new services and how we can tackle the opportunities and the challenges of the future together.

It was a tremendously positive visit and it was exciting to confirm that we shared the same values of quality, trust and reliability, all underpinned by a personal approach.

Our sustainability agendas also coincide, as we both strive to meet our clients’ needs with superior, eco-friendly products and much less waste. Together, with collaboration and innovation, we aim to be “green” leaders in the textile services sector.

Flourishing Leeds fulfillment centre doubles its annual turnover

A flourishing Leeds fulfilment centre has celebrated a record-breaking year.

The Curo Fulfilment facility store, which is operated by Pegasus World Holding, has doubled its annual turnover.

Curo Fulfilment is based in Curo House, a 75,000 sq ft state-of-the-art warehouse with offices, in the heart of the award-winning Logic Leeds business park by Junction 45 of the M1.

Pegasus Head of Operations Luke Grant explained: “Since we launched two years ago, Curo has grown from a niche, but effective, fulfilment company into a major player in this challenging, competitive and ever-expanding sector.

“We provide an unrivalled fulfilment service and are proud to stand out from our competitors. When a client’s stock arrives in our warehouse, we check it before scanning it and adding it to our inventory. We keep the client updated on their stock levels at every stage of fulfilment, so they know exactly how much stock they have in the warehouse.

“Safety is at the heart of our operation. Our storage service is available independently of our 3PL services, while our extensive CCTV coverage keeps all of goods secure, and our expert team ensure all products are stored safely and correctly, from small jewellery items up to large pallets.

“In essence, we take the pressure off companies to allow them to focus on their core business of sourcing, ordering and selling their products. We do the storing, packing and distribution, with integrated cloud-based software giving our clients real-time visibility of their orders and an easy order-to-despatch process.”

Meanwhile Hussein Kahil, Marketing and Communications Manager, is extremely optimistic about the future of Curo Fulfilment.

He commented: “This is a pioneering business venture of which we are extremely proud. Unlike other fulfilment centres, we are happy to take products of any size. Indeed, we specialise in the storage of over-sized goods and large machinery. We have ample space to accommodate them, which makes us stand out from our rivals.

“We choose from a range of logistics partners to ensure goods are delivered when customers need them. With next-day delivery options, economy options, and options for large parcels, we have a wide range of choices to suit all needs.

“Our bespoke base at Curo House also features serviced offices so we are offering new start-ups and established businesses an opportunity to work in an office on a cost-effective basis while being close to their products. This limits expenditure on both leasing premises elsewhere and expensive additional staff.”

Clients include Omega PLC, one of the finest kitchen manufacturers in the UK and Vanderlande Industries UK, a market leader in logistic process automation in the warehousing, airports and parcel sectors. Curo Fulfilment houses Vanderlande’s oversized stock for Amazon’s automation processes.

Hussein commented: “The quality of these two exceptional clients proves we mean business and that we are not just a new kid on the block, even though we are only just approaching our third anniversary. Having these clients says a lot about our capabilities, our customer service, the large machinery we can store and our costs.”

Owen Woloszyn of Vanderlande commented: “The service that Curo Fulfilment offers is of immense value to us. By completely taking care of the logistics side of our business, we are free to concentrate on our core work.

“It’s such a brilliant, yet such a simple, idea. In the past, we have spent too much time concentrating on making sure our products are stored and delivered safely and correctly. Now we don’t have to worry about that. And that means we have time to expand our sales and marketing operation, which, in turn, should mean increased turnover, profits – and jobs.

Leeds-Based Pegasus World Donates £4,000 To Leading Yorkshire Mental Health Charity

Pegasus World, based in Leeds, has donated £4,000 to leading Harrogate mental health charity Wellspring Therapy & Training.

This donation is part of Pegasus’s on-going campaign to support mental health charities across the UK.

The company, which occupies Curo House, a 75,000 sq ft state-of-the art office and warehouse building at Logic Leeds Business Park by Junction 45 of the M1, places great emphasis on good mental health in the workplace.

CEO Ivan Zhou explained: “We take our social responsibilities extremely seriously. We are proud to support the magnificent Yorkshire mental health charity, Wellspring Therapy & Training, with a £4,000 donation.

“Wellspring provides private counselling at affordable rates, easing the overwhelming demand on the NHS’s mental health services, and providing hope for children, families and individuals who are struggling with mental ill health and distress.”

“As we create more quality and sustainable jobs in the Leeds area, providing a timely boost to the region’s economy, so we are aware of the importance of creating a happy and supportive working environment for all our staff.”

Nick Garrett, Interim Chief Executive of Wellspring said: “Pegasus World Holding’s warehousing and distribution expertise is vital to the health of the Leeds City Region. This much needed donation is also vital as it will help us improve peoples’ mental health. I can’t thank Ivan Zhou enough for his company’s generosity.”

Wellspring Therapy & Training is based at 78 High Street in Starbeck. The well-respected charity, which was founded by in 2003, provides affordable short and long-term counselling for the Harrogate and district community.

What makes Wellspring’s work unique is that the charity offers affordable long-term, open-ended counselling where needed. This type of therapy is not currently widely available from the NHS. Most private counselling typically costs between £50 or more for each session, but many of Wellspring’s clients are unable to afford this.

Looking ahead, Wellspring hopes to be able to counsel 220 clients by the end of next year, building on the 170 now on the charity’s books.

That's why we've joined the Better Cotton Initiative (BCI), an organisation dedicated to improving cotton production around the world by working with farmers, mills and brands like yours.

What is the Better Cotton Initiative?

The Better Cotton Initiative is a global non-profit organisation that promotes better farming practices to reduce environmental impact and improve the livelihoods of cotton farmers. It was founded in 2004 by a coalition of retailers, brands and NGOs who wanted to make sure that the cotton they used was grown under fair conditions. The initiative has grown into an international movement with over 90 members across 19 countries including countries like Australia, Brazil, China, India and the USA.

The Impact of BCI Cotton

The Better Cotton Initiative (BCI) is a global partnership of brands, retailers and suppliers working to improve the sustainability of cotton production. BCI members have committed to reduce water use by 20% and pesticide use by 10% by 2020. They also aim to increase soil health through better crop rotation practices and the use of cover crops that improve soil quality while reducing erosion and preventing run-off into local waterways.
In addition to these goals, BCI members have pledged not to source cotton from genetically modified seeds in order to protect biodiversity on farms around the world; they also work with farmers who grow their own seed varieties so that these farmers can continue their family traditions without losing access to valuable genetic material from one generation to another.

In August 2022, Pegasus World officially launched our new sustainability programme, Pegasus BetterWorld. As a leading Yorkshire-based multi-industry enterprise with divisions in textiles, cleaning & healthcare products, and fulfilment, we’re conscious of the ecological and social impact our industry has on the world. As our company grows, so does our responsibility towards society and the planet – not just in our local community, but in all areas of the world where our supply chain operates. That’s why we’ve launched Pegasus BetterWorld so we can build a business that works for the future.

What is Sustainability?

Sustainability means doing business in a way that minimises environmental and social impact while remaining financially viable. This means being fully aware of the impact our business has on the environment (e.g. emissions, resource use) and on society (e.g. working conditions in our own company and throughout our supply chain). Understanding this impact means we can start minimising its negative effects and actively seeking new, better ways to do business. That’s why we’ve appointed a new Sustainability Officer so we can better dedicate ourselves to this endeavour as we move forward.

Our Initiatives

Reducing Emissions

CO2 emissions are among the greatest contributors to climate change, and that’s why we’ve cut down on our emissions by switching to all-electric forklifts in our two Leeds warehouses. We also encourage staff to cycle to work if they can, and have installed electric vehicle charging points at our new building for staff use.

Sustainable Fabrics

Using recycled and other sustainable materials is a great way to improve our environmental footprint. Pegasus Group currently offers the Ekocloth chefwear range made from 100% recycled polyester, and we’re looking to expand this with more sustainable textile ranges in the future.

Resource Efficiency

We believe no action is too small to make a difference, even seemingly minor things such as reusing cardboard boxes. That’s why we save and reuse 100% of the cardboard packaging that enters our warehouse. We’ve also developed a new, more space-efficient way of packaging Pegasus towels by compressing them into bales, saving cardboard and cutting down on emissions by reducing the number of shipments required.

Supplier Guidelines

We’ve drawn up an ethical sourcing policy which stipulates that all our supply partners must adhere to the ETI Base Code of labour rights. A further list of guidelines will be developed to promote ethical and environmentally friendly practices throughout our supply chain.

Community Partnership

We’ve been active in our local community since 2020 when we donated 10,000 face masks alongside other items of PPE to two local charities, and last year when we planted trees around our office to improve the landscape and help offset carbon emissions. We plan to build on this further by partnering with local organisations for initiatives that will have a positive impact on our community.

Pegasus China has invested in brand-new, state-of-the-art towelling manufacturing premises in Nantong in the south east of the province of Jiangsu.

The smart new premises will enable Leeds-based Pegasus Group to continue its rapid expansion programme, working very closely with the UK’s largest laundries and hotels through its flourishing Pegasus Textiles division.

Pegasus Textiles will now be able to meet the increased demands of the hospitality industry, following the easing of Covid-19 restrictions in the UK. These exciting plans also include an increased product offering for Pegasus Homeware, as it expands further into the retail market in the coming months and years.

Ivan Zhou, owner and CEO of Pegasus Group , which is based at Logic Leeds business park in south Leeds, explained: “These magnificent new manufacturing premises will be a game-changer for us. New Leeds fulfilment centre up and running

The Curo Fulfilment facility store, which is operated by Pegasus World Holding Group Ltd, has signed its first deal with Wide Wings Tiles of Morley.

Curo Fulfilment, which is located at the £200m Logic Leeds industrial estate in south Leeds by junction 45 of the M1, stores, packs and delivers goods for its customers.

Pegasus operations director Martin Doyle said: “It is tremendous news that we have completed our first deal. We would like to thank Vijay Maniyar of Wide Wings Tiles for putting his faith in our new venture. We look forward to working very closely with Vijay to make Wide Wings Tiles even more successful than it already is.

“At the moment we are using a large area of our existing warehouse at Logic Leeds, but will be expanding into a nearby 61,000 sq ft bespoke unit at Logic Leeds this autumn.”

The unit is planned to have serviced offices.

It’s almost the weekend, and that means it’s time to put your feet up and wind down with a few fun, quick-fire questions.

This ‘Time Out’ features Ivan Zhou, owner and CEO of Leeds-based Pegasus World, one of the fastest growing textile and real estate companies in Yorkshire.

What is the first thing you do to get the weekend started?

On Friday evening, it’s a trip into Leeds from our HQ at Logic Leeds business park, about 20 minutes from the city centre. My usual destination is a great steakhouse like Gaucho. If my weekend starts on a Saturday, then a brilliant British breakfast at Plonkers Bistro in Cumberland Street, York, hits the perfect spot. Then I’m ready for whatever the weekend throws at me.

What is your hobby?

I can’t really say work, can I? I try to switch off if I can, but it’s not always possible. Golf, travel, and jogging are my three favourite pastimes away from the day job. I also enjoy walking my dog Lily, a Japanese Akita.

What is your favourite movie?

That’s a difficult one, but I love Forrest Gump, the story of a simple man at the centre of some of the most exciting years in US history. Tom Hanks is superb in the title role.

We donated 10,000 face masks alongside other items of PPE to two local charities.

Pegasus World has supplied York Foodbank with 6000 disposable face masks as well as almost 200 sanitisers, including hand sanitisers, dispensers, and sanitiser wipes of different sizes.

The company, which was established in York in 2006, has also donated more than 4000 disposable masks and almost 200 sanitisers to the Salvation Army in York.

And they have supplied The NHS at Millfield Surgery in Easingwold, North Yorkshire, with 4000 disposable face masks.

Said Pegasus Operations Director Martin Doyle: "Pegasus is proud to be in a position to be able to give something to those in need in these uncertain times.

"We have reached out to a number of organisations and donated protective equipment and products to help them to continue to keep themselves and others

safe."

The company - whose head office is in Outgang Lane, Osbaldwick - has also delivered supplies of PPE to two educational institutions, St Peter's School in York and CAPA College in Wakefield which focuses on creative and performing arts.

"We want to help to help keep the community safe and as well as helping charities and the NHS, we have donated to two educational institutions with which we have connections," said Ivan Zhou, the Company CEO.

Pegasus World, which established itself across the UK in the busy work wear market supplying the hospitality sector, has this year expanded to supply PPE across the UK.

Earlier this year the company introduced a new range of cleaning hygiene and PPE. Its products now include face masks, face shields, sanitisers and dispensers, gloves, sanitiser wipes, aprons, infra red thermometers, cleaning stations and cleaning cloths.

"We began to manufacture and sell PPE in April 2020 after the pandemic caused a massive slow-down in our core business of textiles wholesale," said Ivan.

York Food Bank wrote on lnstagram "Thank you to our friends at Pegasus."

Major Andrew Dunkinson, of York Salvation Army, said: "We are planning on distributing the hand sanitiser as part of a selection of other items, to our elderly and vulnerable guests who we will be visiting on Christmas Eve/Christmas morning."

Construction work has been completed on two units, totalling 56,000 sq ft, at Logic Leeds, Muse Developments’ flagship industrial and distribution hub by Junction 45 of the M1.

National regeneration specialist Muse has sold the two units to Phoenix Investment Management and Pegasus World respectively.

Investment and manufacturing firms choose Leeds following completion of industrial units

Work has completed on two Leeds-based industrial units with both having been sold to nationwide businesses who have opted to take up residency in the area.

Spanning 56,000 sq ft, the units at Logic Leeds have been handed over to new owners by Muse Developments, which chose the site to launch its flagship industrial and distribution hub.

Phoenix Investment Management has purchased a 25,000 sq ft unit, as part of its growing investment portfolio, while wholesale supplier of textiles for the catering and healthcare sector, Pegasus World, has taken an adjacent unit of 31,000 sq ft for its head office.

Stainforth Construction was the main contractor for both buildings, while the Leeds offices of Carter Towler and Knight Frank acted as joint agents for the scheme. The deals follow in the footsteps of the completion of Premier Farnell’s 362,000 sq ft unit, along with a second 361,000 sq ft unit, which was pre-let to Amazon and completed earlier this year. Both units were forward funded by Aberdeen Standard Investments in deals worth in excess of £100m.

James Scott, development director at Muse, said: “We’re delighted that work has now been completed on these two quality units, adding a further chapter to the success story of Logic Leeds.

“These new buildings represent our shared vision with our partners Halifax Estates, Leeds City Council and Leeds City Region Enterprise Partnership to deliver a first-class destination for industrial and logistics organisations that benefits the whole city region.”

Phoenix Investment Management has bought a 25,000 sq ft unit, which will become part of its growing investment portfolio. Meanwhile, Pegasus World, a wholesale supplier of luxury hospitality textiles, has taken an adjacent unit of 31,000 sq ft. Both units were purchased for undisclosed sums.

Construction of the two buildings will begin imminently, with Shipley-based Stainforth Construction appointed as the main contractor.
